The Watertown Library Association is a nonprofit organization that has served the reading and research needs of its community since 1865. In 1968, the Watertown Library Association merged with the Oakville Library Association and a branch was opened.

Challenge:
The Watertown Library Association was seeking a web-based, maintenance free system to replace its current ILS system. In 2001, the Watertown Library Association was disappointed to learn that both the hardware and software of its onsite system was no longer going to be supported. However, the library did have a windows network with a T1 line in place at the main library and was planning another at the Oakville Branch using cable to provide Internet access.
Solution:
The AGent VERSO™ web-based software and ASP hosted service option was the perfect solution for the library. Auto-Graphics’ ASP hosted service has enabled the Watertown Library Association to implement thin-client technology into its public and circulation areas. The migration to AGent VERSO went smoothly and was extremely cost-effective, as both the main and branch libraries were brought up and fully operational simultaneously.
Results:
Offsite management of the library’s databases has allowed staff to improve service to patrons, without having to spend time focusing on tedious technology issues. AGent VERSO has proven to be extremely easy for both the staff and public to use and has allowed the library to maintain independent and unique local policies.
