Case Study
The New Jersey State Library (NJSL)
The New Jersey State Library (NJSL), located in Trenton, NJ, promotes and supports high quality library and information services to the entire state. As the official depository for state documents, the library is a major research center and provider of library services to state employees and residents, and to Thomas Edison State College students and staff.
Challenge:
NJSL wanted to replace its current client-based resource sharing (ILL) system with a flexible, affordable, and reliable system that did not have to be brought down each time a change or update was made to the server. Frequent and extended downtimes lead to wide patron dissatisfaction with the current system. Furthermore, the state needed a system that could fully integrate with its consortia’s disparate collection of ILS systems, interlibrary loan systems, and search tools.
Solution:
AGent Resource Sharing™ provided a web-based and fully integrated system that met the state and consortia's immediate needs by supporting unlimited resource access and having the highest uptime of any vendor. Furthermore, AGent Resource Sharing enabled NJSL libraries to seamlessly retrieve holdings and circulation information from various circulation systems.
Results:
AGent Resource Sharing has offered the added benefits of scalability and supported growth, allowing Auto-Graphics to create a hybrid virtual catalog comprised of over one million catalog records and more than forty Z39.50 catalogs, while extending access to holdings from smaller non-Z39.50 compliant libraries.
